FD6     Developing Digital Learning Spaces

Presenters: David Jakes

This workshop provides participants with an opportunity to explore the concept of a digital learning space, how that space is constructed, and how it supports and extends the interactions of the physical space (classroom). The workshop presents the concept of a multi-dimensional learning space, composed of a course (teacher) space, a student space, and a knowledge commons that supports both. This session will provide participants with the opportunity to deeply explore the tools of such a space, the teaching and learning opportunities afforded by such a space, how the elements of instruction, curriculum and assessment are blended together to produce a dynamic digital learning environment, and how the entire school community can support it. Finally, participants will have the opportunity to understand the organizational readiness for such a space to be a success.

AM6   Students using Web 2.0 - K-12
Presenter: Jack Etter & Shelley Rossitto

In this hands-on workshop, attendees will take their own ideas, lesson, or units and Web 2.0 them. We encourage attendees to look at what is available out there for Web 2.0 tools. For instance, there is a great class PM1 Web 2.0: New Tools for Schools, on Saturday at NYSCATE. Participants will start to change their perspectives from asking students to “hand in” work and migrate towards asking them to “publish it”. Using the Web 2.o mantra, “Participation, Collaboration and Distribution”, we will look at examples of best practice as well as walk participants through the process of Web 2.0ing a lesson or idea. The outcome of this workshop is for you to be more effective in the classroom in both student engagement and student learning by exploring the current trends in effective technology integration.
